W.R. Unger
President

Bob joined the Cumberland Buildings Company in 1978.  A Carlisle native, he attended the University of Virginia  and then worked in construction for several years while residing in Charlottesville.  When he moved back to Pennsylvania, he was hired by Cumberland as an Assistant Project Manager.  His first project with  the company was the Weyerhauser Lumber Company  facility in Ephrata.  Bob became Project Manager on Weyerhauser after just 3 months on the job.

During his tenure at Cumberland Buildings Company, Inc., Bob worked in the engineering and surveying department, as an assistant construction manager, and as the sales and business development manager. In 1988 he became the Vice-President of the company. When the previous owner, Dave Rogers, decided to retire in 1992, Bob took over the company.

"The reason I'm in this business is that I love seeing the fruits of my labor on a daily basis. It is a great feeling to be able to sit down with a customer, hear what they want and need, and go get the job done. It is so rewarding to come back to that customer at project completion and hear them say 'Thanks for making my vision a reality.'"

Today his responsibilities include business development, review and maintenance of current customer accounts, and general project oversight. Currently he is board member of the Greater Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce where he chairs the legislative affairs committee and is President of the Carlisle Area Economic Development Corporation (C.A.E.D.C.). He also serves the Borough of Carlisle by sitting on the Board of Appeals which reviews construction code issues.

In addition, Bob devotes a significant amount of time to the community he lives and works in. Bob is currently serving his third term on the Carlisle Family YMCA Board of Directors where he received their prestigious Adult Service Award in 2001 for his exceptional leadership and service to the Carlisle Family YMCA. In addition to being secretary of the Y, he also co-chairs the “Holiday Lights” outdoor Christmas light display at Carlisle Events. He also is on the Board of the United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County where he chairs the Personnel and Property Committee.

"My work on the Jaguar dealership was really exciting. It was a unique opportunity because the owner wanted an upscale building and we were able to work with him to create a really impressive building. Our work on the Quaker Oats facility was also extremely satisfying. It was our biggest job ever with over 500,000 square foot of warehouse space. It was a challenge we really enjoyed."

Bob Stone
Project Manager

Bob has been with Cumberland Design & Building Co., Inc. since 1999. He joined the firm as a project manager after 13 years with Bink Architectural Partnership in Camp Hill. Bob spends the major part of his day organizing the construction process by ordering and scheduling materials and contractors, creating details for the field work crews, and working with the clients to solidify the planning process.

"Daily Express was the first project I worked on. It was a terrific experience because I had the opportunity work on it from the project inception: design through construction. I really enjoyed the challenge of making an office building an architectural pleasure."

Owen Kennedy

Today, as a project manager, he maintains constant contact between the customer and the Cumberland Design & Building team. He handles customer questions, scheduling, quoting and estimating.

"The Wyndham Garden hotel in Annapolis, Maryland was rewarding because it was such a different project and I was able to be involved in every step of the construction process."
